Over a thousand residents and fans of Guilford, Connecticut showed up in the downtown area throughout the Generations Jubilee celebration that kicked-off the Town’s 375th Anniversary Year on December 31, 2013. The energy was electric, not only from the sheer number who gathered as a community to participate, but from the intentional and passionate spirit behind this historic day.

Attendees lingered together on both ends of the event, starting with the townwide aerial photo at noon and culminating in the fireworks display at 8 p.m. alongside a 2-barreled bonfire on the Green that began at 4:30 and lasted until all was quiet again. In between, the Guilford Community Center and downtown Churches were filled to capacity during some of the activities, which included a Bubble Stomp room, dance lessons from Latin to Ballroom to Hula to Tai Chi, a call for contributions to hometown-girl Anne Kubitsky’s Looking for the Good Project, and numerous heartfelt concert performances dedicated to and inspired by the Guilford community.

Hundreds of volunteers – from businesses to civic groups to residents – made the day possible for the thousands who filled the Community Center, Churches, Library, downtown shops and restaurants, and the Green for the myriad activities and concerts. A Big Thank You to all follows below.

“The Generations Jubilee was a huge success!” says Veronica Wallace, Chair of the 375th Anniversary Committee. “Everyone enjoyed themselves – from the Bubble Stomp to the Fireworks. It was a great day for Guilford!”

With such a healthy turnout, the question is already in the air – is this a once-in-a-quarter-century event for Guilford, or a first annual? Share your thoughts – and memories of the day – with all. Submit your photos, stories, videos, and anything else you’d like to share about Guilford Past or Guilford Present. What does Guilford mean to you? We’re listening!

Thank You!
